Carpenter’s Clinic & Mental Health Services

Carpenter’s Clinic

Many of Carpenter’s Shelter’s residents, David’s Place and Winter Shelter guests do not have or receive any health care benefits.

Under the volunteer leadership of Dr. Laurence Clark, Carpenter’s Clinic provides quality medical care to uninsured clients and community graduates experiencing homelessness. Weekly, a team of volunteer doctors, physician assistants and nurses provide free medical exams and prescriptions to our emergency shelter residents and community clients.

Carpenter’s Clinic moved from The Hoffman Center to the Alexandria Community Shelter (ACS), located at 2355-B Mill Rd, Alexandria, VA.

The Carpenter’s Clinic is open on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Mental Health Services

Experiencing homelessness is traumatic. As such, Carpenter’s Shelter employs a full-time licensed therapist that provides mental health services across all the agency’s programs. Support includes crisis intervention and stabilization, risk assessment, and referrals to the City of Alexandria’s Community Services Board for long-term care, if needed.
