There are myriad factors that can lead to homelessness including lack of affordable housing, racial inequities, unemployment, underemployment, generational poverty, domestic violence, history of incarceration, mental illness, substance use disorder, and health conditions. Generally, a series of events or conditions escalates to the point where an individual or family can no longer cover their housing expenses.
