Carpenter’s Cook-Off was a delicious success!

Thank you everyone who joined us on Sunday, April 28, 2019 from 12 noon to 3 pm at The Birchmere and indulged in an afternoon of food and fun while supporting Carpenter’s Shelter! At Cook-Off, nearly 500 attendees enjoyed tastings from 20 area restaurants, bid on hot ticket items during the live and silent auctions, and listen to live music by the Alpha Dog Blues Band.

Meet our 2019 Celebrity Judges!

Chef Duane Keller is the Executive Chef at the Belle Haven Country Club. Among his many honors are receiving the James Beard Foundation Certificate in 2001 and helping Julia Child to celebrate a delicious 90th birthday in 2002. Washington Magazine has frequently included Chef Duane in lists of top local chefs and Gourmet Magazine featured him during his tenure as head chef at the Ashby Inn in Paris, Virginia. Chef Duane has also lent his cooking skills during Hurricane Katrina relief efforts and Pentagon rescue operations on September 11th.

Vikram

Chef Vikram Sunderam is the Executive Chef at Rasika and Rasika West End located in Washington, D.C. In 2014, he won the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic and had the honor of hosting President Barack Obama at Rasika for two birthday dinners. In August 2016, Chef Vikram opened his new restaurant, Bindaas, which focuses on Indian street food. Chef Vikram also published a cookbook called Rasika: Flavors of India, celebrated for making Sunderam’s high quality cuisine accessible to home cooks.

Beautiful food is a way of life for Chef Danielle Turner. As a personal chef, cooking instructor, food writer, and food stylist, she brings food to life in the kitchen, classroom, online, and in print. Chef Danielle has taught cooking classes throughout the DC area is currently the culinary instructor at Tastemakers. Her articles have appeared in The Food Network magazine and she has styled live cooking events, commercials, television shows, and cookbooks. Chef Danielle is a proud graduate of L’academie de Cuisine.

Host Committee:

Host Committee is a passionate circle of individuals who support Cook-Off and the shelter by providing financial support and inviting friends to join in. Host Committee members receive VIP tickets to Cook-Off as well as a invitations to a pre-event reception. This year’s reception was held at The Motley Fool on Thursday, March 28th from 6-8 pm.
