Ready, set, Run for Shelter! Carpenter’s Shelter is proud to host annual Run for Shelter, featuring a 5K, 10K and Fun Run on Saturday, November 18, 2017. Proceeds from this signature community event fund Carpenter’s Shelter’s mission to support the homeless to achieve sustainable independence through shelter, guidance, education and advocacy. Runners, joggers and walkers of all ages are welcome to participate! There will be prizes for top finishers and age group awards.
Carpenter’s Shelter’s Young Philanthropists will be collecting new hats, gloves and scarves at Run for Shelter, so be sure to bring these items to donate!

When: Saturday, November 18th at 8:00am (10K begins promptly at 8am; 5K at 8:10am; Fun Run at 8:15am)

Learn about our USATF certified course!
The Run for Shelter 5K and 10K courses are an out and back on Eisenhower Avenue which is flat and fast, except for one rise at the overpass near the start and finish. The course is USATF certified (VA -10004-RT). The race is restricted to the north half of Eisenhower Avenue, which will be closed to traffic and manned by course marshals. Fun runners will run on the same course, with an earlier turnaround point.
Start & Finish Location:
US Patent and Trademark Office, access from Eisenhower Avenue between Elizabeth Lane and John Carlyle Street. Start and finish will be in front of the Madison Building on Eisenhower Avenue.

New to Run for Shelter this year is the Shelter Showcase Exhibition which provides companies and vendors an opportunity to set up a booth and advertise your products and services to more than 700 runners! Click here for the Shelter Showcase Exhibition application.
Packet pick-up will be on Nov. 16th from 3-7pm at Carpenter’s Shelter (930 N. Henry Street, Alexandria, VA 22314), Nov. 17th at Whole Foods Market in Old Town (1700 Duke Street, Alexandria, VA 22314), and the morning of the race at the race site beginning at 7 am.
If you are running and bringing your child along in a stroller, it is not necessary to pay an additional registration fee.
Note: Children in strollers do not need to register. In addition, do not have your child wear a timing tag if he/she is catching a ride. That tag will read that your two-year-old ran your speedy time and cause confusion in the results!
Yes! There will be prizes for the top three male and female finishers for the 5K and 10K and age group awards.
Our races are professionally timed. Timing will be provided as soon as possible after the race’s completion.
Carpenter’s Shelter welcomes elite runners. In order to receive complimentary admission elite runners must meet the following criteria:
Email email@example.com by November 1st with your name, phone number, sex, date of birth and proof of your performance (a link to the race website, results page or record). Elite runners will not be offered complimentary admission after November 1st.
Meet the qualifying time within the past 2 years.
